The southwest facade's overhang framed up and sheathed.
A good view from the front entry sequence showing the framed view to the northwest.
Flexible HVAC ductwork going into the spaces between the floor joists. A key challenge in putting a building together is getting all of the systems - structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC (and more!) - to work together and not overtake the formal goals of the design.
From the second floor landing in the foyer, looking out to the backyard and beyond.
A good view of the tennis court sized roof (only an architect would bring his 7 year old daughter up there :)
A floor diffuser will fill this slot in the sub-floor. Note that the diffuser is not centered on the opening as would be preferred because the diffuser layout is set by the floor joist layout below. Also, counterintuitively the best place for diffuser locations is where the building envelope is 'weakest' - at a glazed opening.
The entry from the backyard deck.
On axis with the office volume; good view of the footing that supports the CMU wall. Big wall with a big footing.
We created a soffit along the north side of the first floor to create a space for the duct work and piping. As you can see, the space got pretty crowded.
