Drywalled openings from the main entry showing the corner bead necessary to make gypsum board corners durable.
This detail shows the stairs into the living room (down from the main level) with the start of a reveal at the wall - when it is finished, wood base will leave a 3/8" gap.
The study's deck waterproofed and ready for a metal railing and stucco.
A blurry shot of the overlapping waterproofing and stucco mesh.
Another view of the entry - the contractor working hard to get all the details right.
A tricky condition where the 'floating' stair meets the exterior wall and second floor landing.
In the living room; fireplace and bench primed and ready for paint.
The slot in the ceiling is a cove that we will hide a light up and in. Coves are great as they hide the light source from the eye (no hot spots), and when done right, wash the wall with a uniform band of light.
A collage of materials: CMU, stucco, wood door frame, aluminum door, and wood clapboard soffit.
Floating in the air (well, on top of the scaffolding ;) under the 10' deep overhang, looking back towards the entry.
A crazy view, from the scaffolding once again, looking down at the four retaining walls and the neighbor far below - some 90 feet down!
Color samples - luckily the owner's agree that white was the right choice (the color white let's the other colors and textures do the talking!)
Another tricky detail at a window that flushes out with the finish floor inside and sits just 2" above the finish grade outside. Luckily the window is under a deep awning so it will stay high and dry (must have been planned that way!)
Just to the left of the window above, this is the main entry door. Its a mess right now but will be a knockout soon.
Nicely done work by the contractor: plumb wall, reveal or gap, window frame, and window. All true and crisp.
Wow! Feels like we're almost done!
Matching the living room cove, the main entry wall will be washed in light.
Turning around from the previous picture and looking out the entry into the backyard.
The entry's 2nd floor landing and railing newly installed.
