Following his work at Eric Owen Moss Architects, Stuart continued his apprenticeship at Richard Meier & Partners Los Angeles.
For his first five years at RMPLA, Stuart worked on the San Jose Civic Center, taking the project through initial 3D modeling, to the creation of 'construction documents' (over 1,000 sheet set of drawings!), and finishing with managing the construction process. The $300M project covers two city blocks, and provides spaces for the bulk of the city staff and agencies. The project includes an 18 story tower, a rotunda (larger than the US Capital rotunda!), city council chambers, and a large public plaza. Stuart was responsible for the tower, the plaza, and the below grade spaces (which included parking for 400 cars, and all of the crucial and complex 'physical plant' spaces).
For his final year at RMPLA, Stuart worked on a private residence in San Francisco. The project, for a delightful art collecting couple, covers the entire floor of a coop building with views all around. This project was extremely well documented with about 70 sheets of drawings for a 3,700 sf TI!?!
